We Have A Concrete Foundation!

June 19th will forever be known around here as "THE DAY OF THE BIG POUR". A long and busy day which started about 6 AM. The pumper and concrete truck arrived and were set up in no time. The concrete was pumped from the top of the driveway into the forms and then each wall was vibrated to make sure there would be no gaps in the foundations. The pumping and vibrating was actually the easy part. The pumper made quite a mess and ended up dumping concrete in places it never should have been which made clean up much harder than was necessary but with will power and sheer determination we managed to pull all the forms and get things cleaned up.

It took until yesterday, July 1st, to get all the forms cleaned up, nails and screws removed, stacked and all the other post pour clean up done. Of course the "clean up crew" consisted of just the two of us and was during some of the hottest days of the years so far so we feel pretty good that we actually got it finished at all.

Of course I took a bit of a break on Father's day to construct two sets of some of the heftiest saw horses I've ever seen for Guy's Father's Day present. OK, maybe this was a bit selfish as well because I had to have someplace to stack all the lumber once it was cleaned up.

This is the "Big Pour":

The Clean up is finished and the foundation looks great!

With the foundation in progress should come fairly quickly now. The sill plates are going in under the section of the house that remains from the demolition and it will "finally" be lowered onto a foundation. Once that is done construction will begin in earnest and progress should come in leaps and bounds.
